BBA Spring Update

BBA Spring Update

A Message From the BBA Executive

Dear Parents and Blazers Basketball Association Supporters,

As the 2014/15 basketball season gradually winds down for some of our club teams, the executive members of the Blazers Basketball Association would like to take a moment to commend all of our players, coaches, managers and parents for delivering what has been one of the most successful seasons for our organization ever. Brockville (and the surrounding area) is small in comparison to many of the larger metropolitan areas we are forced to play against, however we consistently put together a basketball program that is as (or more) successful than most of these larger organizations. This success can be attributed in large part to the strong set of volunteers within the organization who work tirelessly and go above and beyond the call of duty to help develop this great game for our local athletes.

Thanks for all that you do!

What’s on the Horizon?

Spring Training Sessions

In an attempt to maintain the momentum that the players have earned through their hard work, the BBA would like to offer some Spring Training Sessions for our players (and any newcomers) for the months of May and June. We understand that spring is a chaotic time for families with so many other athletic endeavours tugging for our children’s attention. However, to stay competitive within Ontario we must have our players touch basketballs on a fairly consistent basis even in the off season. In our opinion, the off season may be even more crucial than the competitive season in terms of developing individual skills and conditioning.
The following outlines the schedule for this year’s Spring Training Sessions:

Tuesday Evenings

6:00 – 7:00 Grades 2-4 Boys and Girls
7:00 – 8:00 Grades 5-7 Boys and Girls
8:00 – 9:00 Grades 8-10 Boys and Girls

Cost $30

Registration: Show up 15-20 minutes before the 1st session for your age group (April 28th)
Location: St Mary HS
Dates: Tuesday April 28th – June 2nd (6 total sessions)

Winter House League Update

Our Winter House League Development Program flourished on Monday nights at Ange Gabriel under the excellent tutelage of Steve Lawn and his assistants. The sessions were offered at staggered times to students in Grades 4-8, and our participation included a whopping 67 players!

The House League is the backbone of the organization. It is crucial that our area children learn the basic fundamentals of the game, so that they can begin to feed into our competitive teams in the years to come. It is equally important that the kids have fun while their learning these skills as this will help them to convince more of their friends to explore this athletic option. Mr. Lawn (and his staff of volunteers) provide every bit of the necessary training for the inquiring basketball mind and they package it in such a way that the kids are leaving each week anticipating the next session.
How can we judge the success of these sessions? The numbers (of kids participating) don’t lie.
Great job!
